Organisational Structure


The Director General manages the Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor, provides leadership, strategic direction and a focus on results for the Department, according to the Public Sector Management Act 1994, Part 3B.

The Department is comprised of four divisions:

Liquor and Gambling Regulation

Liquor Regulation is responsible for regulating the sale, supply and consumption of liquor, and for monitoring premises where the sale of liquor occurs to ensure compliance with the Act.

In addition to determining liquor licensing applications, the team also monitors the standards of licensed premises, ensures compliance with the requirements of the Liquor Control Act 1988 and determines any matters arising from the administration of the Act including dispute resolutions or disciplinary action such as infringement notices or prosecution.

Gambling Regulation is responsible for legal gambling in Western Australia by assessing licence and permit application for community gaming, and issuing licences to people who work in licensed positions.

The team also conducts a program of audits and inspections to promote compliance with legislation related to the racing and gaming industries. Team members investigate complaints and breaches of legislation, and initiate corrective action that may include education, assisting parties with dispute resolution or disciplinary action such as infringement notices or prosecution.

Strategic Regulation

Strategic Regulation is responsible for the development and implementation of strategic operational policy and undertaking reviews of legislation, consistent with Government direction and legislative and customer requirements, with respect to matters relating to the racing, gaming and liquor industries.

The customer services team provides high quality and professional service to our customers. The team conducts educational meetings and presentations.

Administrative Law determines applications in accordance with relevant legislation and delegation, and provides high level support to the Director General in relation to the regulation of the racing, gaming and liquor industries.
