Juveniles

A juvenile is someone who is under the age of 18 years and is not permitted by law to be able to purchase liquor either on-premises or off.

It is also against the law for anyone to buy liquor on behalf of a juvenile, or supply them liquor on a licensed or regulated premises.

Identification and Proof of Age Cards

A licensee has the right to require any person to produce evidence of age before gaining entry to the licensed premises.

The following forms of identification are they only forms acceptable as evidence of age:

  • a current Australian driver's licence with a photograph;
  • a current passport with a photograph; or
  • a Western Australian Proof of Age Card.

A Proof of Age Card is a personal identity card which is available to anyone 18 years or over. Applications for proof of age cards can be made at any Department of Planning and Infrastructure licensing centre or licensing agent. Applicants should be aware that Proof of Age cards are designed primarily for accessing licensed premises and there is no obligation on institutions to accept the card for proof of identity purposes.
